A wedding with Profit and Loss statement???

Went to a colleagues' wedding yesterday and it made me wonder.... do most people think of weddings as a business transaction? If they do, then, shouldn't they strategise like a real business? i.e. Cut expenses, get de best value for money so that the hong bao received will be higher.

There are basically 4 groups of ppl who attend weddings. Rich relatives, not so rich relatives, rich guests and not so rich guests. Rich people will giveaway hong bao like no one's business. Unless they are really the cheapo ppl who will count every little cent. Relatives... well.... some not so rich ones will give a bit more than usual. So actually the odds of receiving $$$ more than what you pay per person is around 30%. So why izzit that ppl are so hung up on profit and loss margin?

The best odds is, get a wedding done at the void deck (free), and pay like $5 per pax for food. Order like 20% less than your expected number of guests. Do a buffet cos no one will eat that much and less wastage and you don't incur money on manpower. Better still, get relatives to cook so that you only incur money on raw materials. Forgo decorations as, who bothered anyway? No need for mak andam and bridal boutique clothes. Get it tailored as you can always wear it again and again years after that. Plus you need not step into someone else's crotch. Plus, the phrase of being king and queen for a day is so passe and lame.... Kings and queens do not get to rule the country. Only presidents and prime ministers do.

All those beautiful dresses just to take photos? You can do that at glam shots and you spend less. Plus you get beautiful backgrounds to suit ur clothes.

40% of marriages end in divorce, so why bother to spend so much and make the industry so fetching?

I'm not bitter, it's just that, while the rest of the world are starving, we are feeding planners, restaurants, mak n pak andams with unnecessary cash which most of them dun even pay taxes as they do that freelance and/or not registered companies.

Plus, I'm a social pariah.... I hate superficial faux fur social gatherings where ppl will ask abt your life which they are not completely interested. Just lip service.

Peace!
